My son is 5 ft, 100 lb., so he's right on the line between kids' and mens' clothes. I looked at MANY different winter coats - different brands (Lands End, Columbia, LL Bean, Patagonia, etc.) and then the many different types of coats they all offer. We live in Iowa, and it gets BITTER cold here with awful wind, as well as lots of rain and ice.Ultimately, I decided on the ThermoPlume Fleece-Lined Parka because it was the colors he wanted, has fleece inside the whole coat - not just the body &/or the hood. It's water-resistant and rated down to -17° (which is the best their coats are rated). And it's got the look of a puffer jacket but it is actually NOT bulky at all. We ordered the XL (18-20).It was shipped directly from Lands End, and arrived two days early. It's a little long in the arms, but not overly so, and it just covers his butt. It has the thumb hole sleeve thing which he loves, which helps with the long sleeves. The fleece inside is super soft, the hood fits great and doesn't hang into his face, and it's slightly gathered so that it actually protects his ears as opposed to most hoods that are just wide open.I am so delighted with this jacket. I really wish I could get one for me. LOL You will not regret buying this.
