Lands’ End Legends are the tried-and-true, wouldn’t-be-the-same-without-you styles we lean on every day. Some earned their title through years of work, some are new introductions built for that level of adoration. One thing is certain: their importance will only grow over time.
Bought this coat in preparation for moving to Alaska where -30F or -40F days are not supposed to be uncommon. Haven’t made it there yet but I have spent a few weeks in Wyoming and it is certainly good enough for here and the +10-30F range. Typically, I’ve been wearing it with a hoodie underneath because that’s what I’m in around the house. I’m typically a size 4 and the medium is roomy on me but that was on purpose as I expect I’ll have to do more layering after the move.Things I like:-the sleeves are longer than standard. I’ve got long arms so they cover all the way down to my wrists.-Hood size is adjustable. I was able to cinch it down a bit so my face is at the edge of the hood instead of an inch or two inside-Pockets are decent size. I can fit my iPhone 12 without needing to zipper shut when I’m doing normal walking and such-Pretty durable so far. My place to stay in Wyoming is on a light duty farm so while I’m not doing anything too crazy I haven’t torn it on anything yet while feeding the ducks and chickens.-The front zipper is easy to use and has a good size zipper pull so I can use it even with light gloves onI got the green color (it was cheapest) and it’s a really pretty jewel toned forest green. While I haven’t ripped it I have gotten some stains on the elbows and might have preferred black for that reason.Things I haven’t tested:-how it performs in -40F/C-water resistanceLOVE THIS JACKET. I've been on the hunt for a reasonably priced jacket ever since I saw the kickstarter for North Aware's "Inspector Gadget" jacket. I loved the concept of their jacket, but was not about to pay $$$$$ for it.Know that it takes about 5 minutes for it to puff up once out of the package. I was slightly disappointed when I first opened it and saw how flat it was only to forget it had been vacuumed sealed and it made of down...D'oh.FEATURES:While this jacket has only 3 pockets, they are generously sized (2 inseam zippered/fleece lined pockets on the outside for hands, one interior pocket with a snap that is DEEP).Soft elastic interior sleeve cuffs. Nice touch and keeps there from being a draft between your gloves and arm.The double zipper feature is something this jacket has ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ , though I'm not sure when I'll use it. I've never been one of those people to put on a jacket and walk around without it zippered or buttoned all the way up. (Why wear the jacket? Do you love drafts? So many questions.)The "fur" hood is detachable--note not the fur itself, the entire hood. The "fur" is soft and not itchy. The hood is deeeeeep. I love that feature as I have far too often had hoods that only cover the top half of my head. With this hood you can feel like you are wolf in a cave peeking out at the world.Texture is smooth and a beautiful stone grey. Will work over virtually any color pants.SIZING:I'm 5'6", currently 159 lbs evenly distributed. I'm a 38D, 30" ish in the waist and 42" hips. I first got the Large (12-14), and it just felt baggy around my torso. I thought why not try the Medium for shiggles---it fit waaay better. I look like I have a waist with the Medium (10-12), it's more form fitting without being snug, sleeve length is perfect, and I can lift my arms without severe restriction of material tightening across my back. I tried it on wearing a light sweater over a tank top over pixie pants and riding boots (normal work outfit for me). Fit was nice in all areas (especially under arms--not tight) and left room for perhaps one more light layer or a heavy sweater as opposed to a light sweater. The jacket length hits me about mid thigh, which is what I wanted since I wanted my booty covered.Wore it for a 20 minute test walk in Denver on an overcast day, about 45 degrees. Was plenty warm without overheating. Can't wait to try it out on a truly cold day!I love the coat but, the first time I wore it, I lost my diabetes sensor reader! I put it in my pocket and somewhere it worked its way out of the slash pockets. Where the pockets are and being slash pockets, the are not deep enough to hold valuables. my phone didn't stay in 5 minutes till it fell out. Now i HAVE to carry a purse, YUCK!!!Purchased for a friend. She absolutely loves it.I like this coat. It’s subtly-fitted (which I thought I could not wear) with a fleece-back stand collar, 1 interior pocket and 2 side pockets with a cozy, flannel-like material, and knitted cuffs. The hood is deep, removable (attached by snaps) and adjustable. The 2-way zipper prevents stressing the zipper/coat when sitting. I’m returning because of the faux fur trimmed hood. The fur is not detachable from the hood. Faux fur almost never looks like the highly-styled picture used to sell it. I misted and gently coaxed, but it still looked like a dead animal and cheapens look of the coat.I might have kept the coat if the faux fur was faux fleece matching the collar or faux curly lamb or just left off. I did not wear it outside so no I have opinion as to warmth level. The length on me was just above the knee.I love the color of this coat, and find it very warm. The hood makes a big difference in the cold wind. My one complaint is that the coat is a little bulky. I had a very warm, thin coat in the past and can’t seem to find a replacement. There is a medium bulk to the coat, but your shape is still evident in it if even you are on the thin side. So, you are not lost in bulky down. I bought a size small, and it is true to size. The coat is well made but the weight of the coat was more than I expected. If you have strong shoulders and can handle the weight, you should buy this coat. I wish I could have kept itAt 4'10" with short arms this coat fits like a good glove. It has knit inner cuffs which helps keep the coats arms from being too long on me. Love the Navy color with detachable fur hood and the secure zip pockets.
